Eco Glamping in Southwest Portugal

Portugal Nature Lodge is an eco glamping in southwest Portugals Alentejo province. It has 4 luxury tents on a 7,5 há property in the natural park ‘Parque Natural Sudoeste Alentejana e Costa Vicentina’, Set up in the low hills around a valley, every tent has a lot of privacy and an amazing view over the natural park.
The setting is rural, peaceful and serene. The lodge is 800 meters from the traditional hamlet of Troviscais, where you will also find 2 small cafés who both have a vegetarian (vegan on request) option on the menu.
The property is covered in cork oaks, wild strawberry trees (medronheiro) and other indigenous shrubs, herbs and trees. In spring time the land is a color palette of wild flowers.

Your hosts

We, Peter and Joke, landed here in 2008 after traveling by bike for a year. We fell in love with this land and decided we wanted to live here. After looking after some properties we found this amazing terrain for sale. We immediately felt at home, and plans for a campsite with fully equipped tents visualized.

Tents & Yurts

Now we have one South African safaritent, two mongolian yurts and one family tent, our lodge-tent. All tents have a private bathroom with shower with hot and cold running water, a normal toilet and a washbasin. Towels and eco friendly toiletries are provided.
The private kitchen has a fridge, a stove with 2 hobs, a water boiler and a coffee maker, and all utensils you need to cook a simple meal which you can enjoy on your terrace with a view.
In the tent you will find a comfy double bed, a couch and a dining table. Which is hardly used because you will mostly use the one outside!

Natural pool

On a few walking minutes from your tent, you can’t miss the natural pool. This little paradise is a haven for water animals but also for birds and insects who come for a sip of water. And of course for humans who want to cool down in fresh and clean natural water! It is on a secluded spot where you will have no problem to forget all about the worries of everyday life.

Plant-based meals & Breakfasts

Joke is a plantbased health coach who loves cooking healthy plant-based meals. She brings them to your tent 2 times a week if you like or on request. Every now and then we organize a dinner together in the communal area.
Our breakfast service (also on request) is a basket full of mainly homemade sweet and hearthy plantbased goodies brought to your tent in the morning. You can choose if you like homemade German style sourdough bread or the fluffy crusty white Alentejan breadrolls with your breakfast.
If not vegan we add some eggs of our very free range chickens.

Activities

Portugal Nature Lodge is the perfect place to relax, unwind, don’t plan and do whatever comes to mind. Read a book, watch nature doing its thing, spend as much time in the hammock or on a lounge bed at the pool as you like without feeling you have to get up and ‘do’ something. Of course you will likely visit one or more of the stunning beaches of the south Alentejo coast. Vila Nova de Milfontes is the closest beach, 22 km by car from here.
And if you feel more active, there are plenty of possibilities. Hiking and mountain biking is amazing in this area. When it is too hot for that, you can go to the beach for surfing, supping, or take a canoe to explore the river Mira.

Tourism in the Alentejo developed a lot the last couple of years, but still this region feels unexplored. There are plenty of companies offering activities nowadays, but if you are not looking for them you might as well miss them. No people trying to get your attention for their business.
There is a lot of nature tourism here, mainly hikers and surfers, and because of that a lot of restaurants nowadays have one or more vegetarian or vegan options on the menu.
