O Viso Ecovillage

O Viso Ecovillage is the first rural tourism village in A Mariña, province of Lugo, Galicia in the North of Spain. It is located in a large natural area of twelve hectares making it an ideal place to relax, to disconnect and enjoy the nature.

The village

The village was abandoned 30 years ago and it is estimated that all the buildings in traditional Galician architecture are about hundred years old. The buildings were in very poor condition and in need of complete renovations. The rehabilitation started in 2018 and is based on the premise of ecological sustainability, with respect for traditional materials such as stone or slate.

The rehabilitation and the renovation were carried out in the most respectful way with the original set of the buildings. O Viso Ecovillage consists of several traditional buildings and has eleven apartments and five bedrooms, common areas such as social lounges, pool area, and activities; as well as a small restaurant, which is specialized in plant-based and vegan food.

O Viso Ecovillage is located in the municipality of Ourol, just 15 minutes from the beaches, 16 km from Viveiro, one hour and half from Santiago De Compostela airport.

O Viso Ecovillage is a fantastic place, in addition to being charming, you can see the sea on a clear day, or the mountains. There is an incredible tranquillity. Within walking distance is a magic oak forest and the majestic Xestosa Waterfall. O Viso Ecovillage is the place to be if you wish to disconnect from the everyday stress.

Decoration

Natural materials and the apparent simplicity of the local architecture of O Viso Ecovillage, set the guidelines for the interior design. The decoration is in concert with the history of the village and the Galician culture with a zest of new interpretation.

O Viso Ecovillage has been renovated and decorated using simple furniture, neutral colours, and traditional materials. The aim of the decoration of O Viso Ecovillage was to make it a place to relax, without distractions, in which the environment and the surroundings are the true protagonists. Everything fulfils a function, and entails a pleasant perception of well-being.

Vegan Restaurant

O Viso Ecovillage has a small vegan restaurant in which we offer healthy and tasty plant-based cuisine. We value organic farming and local ingredients. Our inspiration come from the Mediterranean cuisine. Tapas, mezzé, kemia, antipasti, different names but same concept: simple and delicious dishes, so easy to share around a table with a glass of wine. And so perfect with our Galician wine selection.

• Hiking – we can help to find the best trekking in the surroundings according to your wishes
• Biking – renting bicycles is possible and we can offer recommendations for some tours
• Pétanque – typically from South of France but so perfect here under the shade of some superb oak trees
• Galician Artwork – we are proud to be connected with the traditions of Galicia, helping local artists to exhibit their art as well as creating a museum in the lounges and other areas illustrating different aspects of the past rural life in Galicia
• Cooking workshop – We organise workshops on how to make traditional Galician bread, empanada, etc.in the exceptionally well-preserved oven in the restaurant
• Yoga and meditation classes – we organise regularly yoga and meditation retreats
• Sunset and sunrise are spectacular as well as the stars in the sky
