The Riverside Retreat

Allie and Brian, the hosts at The Riverside Retreat, are delighted to welcome you to their home. Built in 1840 it offers stylish, boutique style accommodation on the banks of the River Charente. The spacious bedrooms have been tastefully designed and decorated to add a contemporary twist whilst retaining many original features. Each spacious bedroom has country and river views, large comfy beds, quality bedding and modern ensuite facilities.

Activities

A selection of bicycles are at your disposal to discover many of the off road cycle paths which meander along the river bank or take you into unspoiled villages for a lazy stroll or coffee break. Situated by some of the new « Flow Velo » routes the fresh air will give you the perfect excuse for another slice of Allie’s vegan Brownie.

For the more adventurous, there is water skiing on the lakes just 5 minutes away, or you can launch a kayak from their stone jetty to discover the Charente at a more leisurely pace.

Cognac tours can also be arranged and Allie and Brian are happy to recommend some excellent local producers.

Allie is a qualified beauty and holistic therapist and from her onsite salon, you can indulge in some relaxing beauty treatments, reflexology and aromatherapy massage. While Brian, a pianist and piano teacher, is available to offer piano lessons from his music studio.

They both enjoy cooking and their delicious fusion of Middle Eastern, Indian and French cuisine will tantalise the taste buds. Being vegans they understand the need for really tasty meat alternatives using local organic ingredients where possible.

Breakfast

A continental breakfast is served daily until 10:30am, with organic yogurt, porridge and cereals, seasonal fruit and fruit juice, espresso coffee, breakfast and speciality teas.
Bread and pastries bought from the local boulangerie.

Afternoon tea and homemade cakes can be served by the river.
