Ricky’s Drift

Tucked away in the remote Olyvnrivier Valley in the Klein Karoo, Ricky’s Drift is off the beaten track. An oasis in a dry landscape, with a mountain wilderness at our backs and endless vistas over untouched veldt before us.

Farm and sanctuary

The farm is home to all kinds of wildlife and is a bird watchers paradise. We are a working farm with olive orchards and vegetable gardens. We are also a sanctuary for a few farmed animals who roam freely and live the best life we can give them.

Guest houses and tents

Hiking trails take you through the veldt and up into the mountains, passing through shaded kloofs that are home to ancient spekboom forests. Afterwards, swim in our natural pool or have some tea, coffee and cake of the day at our farm shop. We make all of our own body and household cleaning products on the farm as well as a range of jams, chutneys and preserves.
Our guest houses are set apart from the rest of the farm and offer guests privacy and seclusion. Both houses have wonderful verandahs where you can relax and watch the sunset and the light changing over the distant mountains. This is the place to rest, reconnect with nature and leave the world behind you for a few days.
Our tents are comfortably furnished and have electricity and WIFI. They share an outdoor bathroom and a wonderful lounge/kitchen area where guests can relax and share a meal. Popular with groups of young travellers sharing an adventure together. The tents can accommodate groups of up to 9 people.

Vegan food

We offer cooked vegan meals on request. These can either be enjoyed on our stoep, with ourselves and volunteers or other guests. Or it can be delivered to your house to be enjoyed in privacy.

Surrounding

The nearby town of Vanwyksdorp has restaurants that serve vegan and vegetarian meals. Listen to some local music at the Dusty Dog on a Friday night or browse for gifts and just about anything at “The Mall”. There is also an art gallery and the town is a collection of quaint buildings and eccentric characters. Play tennis on the community court or walk the labyrinth. You can enjoy some fine dining at the Rooiberg Lodge who also have game drives and hikes.
The area is very popular with cyclist and motor cyclists. We are surrounded by gravel roads and breathtaking mountain passes.
