A peaceful and friendly retreat in the heart of the English Lake District, Yewfield is ideally situated for walking and enjoying this exquisite region of rare natural beauty and inspiration of the Lakeland poets.

Set in a quiet elevated position with panoramic views over the Vale of Esthwaite, Lake Windermere and the Fells beyond, Yewfield is situated in over 80 acres of its own grounds. The house itself, with its impressive Gothic architecture dates back to 1859.

B&B and Self Catering Apartments

Recently refurbished with assistance from Tourism Connect, Yewfield offers vegetarian bed & breakfast and luxury self catering accommodation for non-smokers. Following the recent refurbishments, Yewfield Vegetarian B&B has been awarded a visit Britain Quality in Tourism Rating of 5 Stars.

Within the grounds of Yewfield is Swallows’ Nest, Yewtrees and Mulberry self catering accommodation. Comfortably furnished, Swallows’ Nest, Yewtrees and Mulberry have a modern feel with fitted carpets, gas central heating and good distant views from all the main windows.These apartments are let on a weekly basis with some short let offers.

Concerts

Yewfield hosts classical and contemporary jazz concerts with exceptional musicians from around the world. Most of these evenings are free and open to all with just a collection at the door or with a pre concert supper option.

Lake District Walk to Tarn Hows

Yewfield is situated in 80 acres of private grounds with lovely walks from the house to Tarn Hows, a well known and popular destination in the Lake District.

The extensive grounds around the house include native woodland, rough fell pasture, a small tarn and a stream. The grazed pasture is carefully managed giving priority to ecological considerations, which qualifies it to be part of the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme.

Organic vegetable gardens

Newly developed ornamental areas closer to the house include organic vegetable gardens, orchards, a herb patio and a mixed border. We are also experimenting with naturalistic styles and plantings such as a coppice garden, wildflower meadows, a fern corner and a wildlife pond.
A nature trail through the land and gardens guides the visitor through the grounds.

All the heating and hot water for the Yewfield estate is provided by our own woodland, which is thinned by using horses to bring out the wood.

Our vegetarian breakfast

We offer a continental vegetarian buffet including fresh fruits, muesli, cereals, home baked bread, yoghurt, preserves, coffee and teas, and a full cooked vegetarian breakfast using locally sourced organic produce and ingredients where possible.
